BEWARE OF THE GRAPEVINE
Spring brings good news as Jude’s debut novel Black Sequinned Bows And Champagne Nights went live this spring. The enthusiasm for this sexy riveting romance has been heartwarming. The excitement level remains high as USAToday recently interviewed Jude.
Lizzy and Ringer (Jude’s sidekicks) were practically beside themselves when they heard the news. They decided it was time to plan something big to celebrate (which really translates into their having a reason to continue their non-stop champagne-fest that began with the launch). Jude told them to “think up something big to celebrate.”
So Lizzy began twirling in front of the Keurig waiting for her latte to pour while singing “I heard it through the grapevine.” She claimed she was “thinking.” Of course this really meant she was giving Ringer a heads up that she had dirt to dish.
Ringer dropped everything she considered important (toe nail painting) and started taking Lizzy through what sounded like an inquisition to extract every dirty detail. Hence Lizzy (with little pressure) broke the news to Ringer that all hell had broken lose after they left the Gala (you’ll have to read the novel to catch up on those facts). Apparently our heroine Riley Cook (Black Sequinned Bows And Champagne Nights) left the Gala as if the place were on fire, her girlfriends following her lead. (Now my eyebrows are rising as to who is this source of this grapevine news?)
So now Lizzy and Ringer were back to bugging Jude to see if this meant that Captain Noah Dunham (our story’s hero) was back on the market. Of course Jude swore her “lips were sealed.” I haven’t known Jude to be one to risk spoilers, so part of me believed her. Before I knew it, Lizzy and Ringer started grumbling, telling Jude she was acting like she was my “bitch” for keeping such tight lips. But Jude is not one to be easily pushed around. Thankfully, she stood her ground. With her hands on her hips and her stance firm, she addressed them both, saying “loose lips sink ships.” But Ringer had a ready comeback. She insisted that was exactly why Captain Noah Dunham (hero guy) needed to be steered their way and not to our heroine Riley Cook. (Do you see my eye-roll yet?) They both cajoled about how they each had “navigational needs.”
So Lizzy approached me first, looking side-eyed (she’s always the first to grow a set of balls) to see if she could get a peek into what was coming next in the story. I sarcastically suggested that she go back and ask Ringer. Ringer was the self proclaimed “clairvoyant” of their merry group.
“I have no time for this. I’m trying to write a blogpost right now”, I finally yelled out loud. (I was the one now that needed to think.)
What in the hell did I say that for? The next thing I knew the three of them were grabbing tiny cups of Haagen-Dazs out the fridge, surrounding me with looks of anticipation and glee.
They each reminded me that the “Anybody Wanna Buy A Heart?” blog belonged to them. And that if anyone had something to say it was going to be them, not me.
So I relented. “Okay. What do you gals have to say?”
After much whispering between themselves, they came up with a plan.
“What is it?”, I said.
“A give-a-way”, the three of them shouted together with joy. Lizzy ran back to the fridge grabbing splits of champagne. Ringer starting bottle popping and the pouring was fully underway. Jude was drinking and winking hovering over my laptop again.
